Addition by subtraction: Chase Claypool trade a plus for QB Kenny Pickett

Buy Steelers Tickets

On Tuesday the Pittsburgh Steelers pulled off a pair of trades to help the team this season and in the future. First up was the trade that sent wide receiver Chase Claypool to the Chicago Bears. On first glance this might feel like a bad more for a team with a rookie quarterback. But here are three reasons this move is going to help Kenny Pickett and the Steelers offense.

Improves division of labor

Pickett still has an impressive amount of skill players around him. And having one less guy to feel like he must get the football to helps simplify his decisions on any given snap and make his distribution of labor simpler for the rookie.

There is no denying the chemistry between Pickett and wide receiver George Pickens. Pickens will now slide outside and quickly become of the top deep threats in the AFC.

That draft pick is going to make this team better

There’s a strong possibility the second-round pick the Steelers got for Claypool is going to turn into an offensive lineman who can help keep Pickett upright for years to come.
