Adam Woodyatt casts doubt on EastEnders return as he signs up for new TV job

Adam Woodyatt has bagged himself a new role - dashing fans' hopes of a return to EastEnders soon.

The actor - who played Ian Beale on the BBC One soap for decades - is one of the fans' favourite characters on the popular programme, and fans are eager to have him back on Albert Square one day.

However, fans will have to wait at least a little bit longer now to see him back in Walford as Adam has signed up for another BBC role alongside the likes of Richard Blackwood, Linford Christie and Deborah Meaden, which he has already begun filming.

Adam has signed up for a new BBC show (Channel 4)

The show is called B&B By The Sea and will be a daytime programme for the BBC, which is set in a guest house near the Northern Irish coastline, where celebrities will help to create dishes from local ingredients.

They will be led by Great British Menu chef Alex Greene, for what the show describes as a "personal journey of discovery".

"Each episode will see a different celebrity guest, all with connections with the coast, stay at the B&B. Taking a personal journey of discovery and reflection, they make the most of the region's produce and the restorative location," the description reads.

He has been absent from EastEnders since early 2021 (BBC / Kieron McCarron)

Filming has begun at Roe Park Resort in Drumraighland, according to The Sun, where his former EastEnders co-star Larry Lamb was also seen filming for the show. Linford Christie, Gloria Hunningford and Ugo Monye were also present on location in Northern Ireland.

It comes after Adam denied he would be making a return to EastEnders in a huge £300,000 deal amid Danny Dyer's exit.

Speaking on Channel 4's Steph's Packed Lunch earlier this year, he said: "I've kind of left, but not left. It’s kind of the way the storyline has gone … I'm not there. I could go back and I could not go back! I don’t know. The speculation has been hysterical.

He even had a stint in the I'm A Celeb castle (ITV)

"I think everyone is always going to speculate. But there are no plans at the moment."

Reports previously suggested Adam could be "lured" back to EastEnders by the big money deal, with a source sharing at the time: "Adam was one of the highest earners in EastEnders and there’s no doubt he’d be looking to come back on at least the same amount of money, if not more. They’re hugely keen to get him back after the massive blow of losing Danny.

"The belief is that if he signs it now it will mean he has to give Bev more in their divorce settlement. But clearly the bosses at EastEnders need to know what’s happening."
