Manchester City are reportedly interested in completing a transfer for Crystal Palace star, Adam Wharton, as the Cityzens look to find cover for Rodri.
Manchester City Keen On Signing Adam Wharton In January Transfer Window
Following the injury to the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner, Manchester City have been on a terrible run of form and have lost their last five matches in all competitions.
The Spanish midfielder’s influence on the City side is extremely evident and Pep Guardiola is reportedly looking to find cover for Rodri in the January transfer window.
One player that has reportedly been identified by the Premier League champions is Crystal Palace youngster, Adam Wharton, who has impressed during his time at Selhurst Park.
The 21-year-old was a bright spark for the Eagles during their superb run under Oliver Glasner at the end of the 2023/24 campaign and earned a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad.
His form in this campaign has been less admirable, as Crystal Palace sit 19th in the league and have won just one game in the league.
Completing a deal for the former Blackburn midfielder may prove to be a difficult task, as the Englishman still has four and a half years remaining on his deal at Selhurst Park.
City are not looking to wait until the summer, as Rodri is expected to be out of action for the remainder of this season.
Reports indicate that the Premier League side have a host of scouts looking into possible replacements and Wharton is currently sitting at the top of this list.
The Eagles are reluctant to sell their star man and may ask for a transfer fee of around £45-50 million to let him move elsewhere and this price could increase due to the deal being negotiated in January.
Wharton is reportedly on £35,000 per week, which would make personal terms far simpler to agree as City’s wage bill is one of the highest in the Premier League.
