Count Adam Thielen as one of the many Carolina Panthers who have been impressed by rookie wideout Jonathan Mingo.
The former two-time Pro Bowl receiver spoke with Sara Walsh and Marc Ross on the set of NFL Total Access following Monday’s practice. And as he did a few weeks back, he credited his fellow pass catchers for how talented they are—while giving some extra and interesting praise for the 2023 second-round pick.
“I don’t think people realize how deep this group is,” Thielen said. “Even myself, when I got here, you don’t realize it until you get on the field and you’re like, ‘Oh man.’ You have multiple guys who can go in there and make plays.
“[DJ] Chark has had an unbelievable start to camp—making big play after big play every single day. But then you have the young guy like [Jonathan] Mingo comin’ in here and just feels like he’s a veteran. You don’t have that very often that a guy can just come in and just feel like he belongs from Day One. So, been very impressed.”
Thielen’s thoughts jive with what NFL Network reporter Cameron Wolfe gathered on Mingo in June. Wolfe noted that the Carolina coaching staff—offensive coordinator Thomas Brown, in particular—were surprised by how fluid the young 6-foot-2, 220-pounder already is.
Now, we’ll just have to see how he fits and flows with the room throughout the rest of the summer.
