In Adam Sandler's upcoming film, Spaceman, he takes on the role of an astronaut named Jakub, who embarks on a journey to the outer edges of the solar system. However, this movie is not just about space exploration. It delves deep into the protagonist's psyche and explores the complexities of his marriage to his wife Lenka, played by Carey Mulligan.
The latest trailer for Spaceman hints at the visually stunning and thought-provoking nature of the film. Jakub finds himself in a state of solitude during his mission, grappling with the overwhelming loneliness of space and questioning the state of his relationship. As fate would have it, he encounters a peculiar creature named Hanuš, voiced by Paul Dano, who is a spider-like entity dwelling within the spaceship. This enigmatic creature becomes his emotional support and aids him in his quest to mend his marriage.
Netflix's synopsis of the film reveals that Jakub realizes, after six months of isolation, that his marriage may not be waiting for him upon his return to Earth. Desperate to salvage his relationship, he seeks assistance from Hanuš, a mysterious being that has existed since the beginning of time and is hiding within the depths of the spacecraft. Together, they work to unravel the problems that led to the deterioration of Jakub's marriage, hoping that it's not too late to reconcile.
Directed by Johan Renck, known for his work on the acclaimed miniseries Chernobyl, and written by Colby Day, Spaceman is an adaptation of the 2017 novel 'Spaceman of Bohemia' written by Czech author Jaroslav Kalfar. The story originated from a simple premise of an American astronaut receiving a divorce request while stranded in orbit. Kalfar expresses his excitement and astonishment at how the film brings his vision to life, stating that fans of unique and unconventional art will be enthralled by it.
Aside from the talented lead actors, Adam Sandler and Carey Mulligan, viewers can also expect to see Isabella Rossellini portraying the commanding officer of Jakub's mission. Spaceman also features Kunal Nayyar and Lena Olin in supporting roles.
Excitingly, Spaceman will have its world premiere at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival in February. Following the premiere, the sci-fi drama will have select theatrical releases starting from February 23. For those unable to catch it in theaters, the film will be available for streaming on Netflix from March 1 onwards.
Spaceman promises to be a visually stunning and emotionally captivating exploration of love, loneliness, and the human psyche. With its talented cast and intriguing storyline, this film is set to be a thought-provoking and memorable experience for audiences.
