Adam Peaty and his girlfriend of three-years, Eiri Munro sent shockwaves through the showbiz world as they announced their seemingly sudden split on Tuesday night.
The Olympic diver, 27, took to Instagram to apologise to Eiri, 24, who he admitted that he had 'let down', along with their two-year-old son George.
Former Strictly Come Dancing star Adam apologised to his former girlfriend and their son as he suggested he was to blame for the breakdown of their relationship.
In an emotional Instagram post, Adam admitted that he and Eiri have now gone their separate ways as he insisted that he will always have love for his ex-girlfriend.
"Eiri and I have decided to go our separate ways," he began the lengthy post.
"We have enjoyed a wonderful three years together, 2 of those with our gorgeous son George. Our priority has always been to provide the happiest and healthiest home environment for him, and right now that means ending our romantic relationship."
The former Strictly star went on: "I could not ask for a greater mother for George and I am so grateful to Eiri for her amazing support over the last three years.
"Eiri and George, I’m sorry for letting you down.
"My only interest is for the well-being of our family at this difficult time so I ask that our privacy is respected and I won’t be saying anything further."
Following the news of their relationship breakdown, here, we take a look back at how Adam and Eiri first met, and how their relationship was tested during Adam's Strictly stint where he was partnered up with professional dancer, Katya Jones.
Tinder success
Adam and Eiri first met while they were both at Loughborough University – he trained in the pool and she studied art.
However, more specifically actually met on the online dating app Tinder.
They were first pictured together on New Year's Eve 2020, where Eiri posted a picture to Instagram.
She captioned the picture with three ice cube emojis, and was later asked who the 'mystery man' was.
After months of speculation back in 2020, Adam finally revealed that he met his partner on the popular dating app, Tinder.
Shock pregnancy
After just two months of dating Adam, Eiri discovered that she was pregnant with her first child.
The Olympian and his stunning girlfriend welcomed their son - George-Anderson Adetola Peaty - in September 2020.
The lovebirds announced their baby joy on social media and they later confirmed their little one’s gender in a gushing post.
Adam has previously opened up about how becoming a father has inspired him when it comes to swimming.
The sports star explained that having a son makes him appreciate everything that little bit more.
“I think having a son now as well has just made me appreciate these moments a little bit more. He’s with me every single day anyway in my mind when I’m away from him and with him,” Adam said.
“I perform and train like they’re on my back and I like that. It’s just being a father, right? I love it.”
Strictly curse and the 'almost kiss' with Katya Jones
During his stint on Strictly Come Dancing in 2021, Adam left fans shocked by a performance with as many viewers were left convinced the dance partners almost locked lips live on stage.
The 27-year-old Olympic star was paired with 32-year-old dance professional Katya as part of the 2021 season of the long-running BBC dance competition.
In the middle of his Strictly journey, Adam set tongues wagging that the Strictly curse had struck once again amid his relationship with Eiri as he set the dance floor ablaze with a sizzling Argentine Tango routine which saw them skip, twirl and slide across the floor with Katya.
The routine finished with Katya bending over backwards while Adam supported her frame and the pair had their faces incredibly close together.
The couple paused with their lips mere centimetres from each other, before Adam gently pulled his dance partner back up to standing position.
The dance couple then smiled wildly at each other and pulled apart while viewers were left gasping over the intense moment.
Viewers watching at home took to social media to comment on the sexually charged performance – with many questioning just how close the duo got at the climax of their dance.
Eiri hits back at cheating claims
Despite fiery speculation that there was more going on behind the scenes with Adam and Katya, Eiri took to Instagram to put the rumours to bed with a video mocking the 'almost kiss'.
At the time, the mum-of-one seemingly laughed off suggestions from Strictly Come Dancing fans that Adam nearly kissed pro partner Katya .
While Twitter blew up in reaction to the ‘did they/didn’t they’ moment, Eiri was on over on TikTok, joking about the entire thing.
Using the trending sound of a whining baby, Eiri scrunched up her face as if she was crying and wailing.
Above the clip, she wrote: “Watching your boyfriend almost kiss another woman on live TV, then finding out 10 million people also watched it live.”
Eiri had previously used the same sound to show off about her relationship with Adam, posting another video three days ago where she joked about his increase in fans thanks to Strictly.
Sharing an image of him in his swimming trunks, Eiri was seen laughing as she wrote: “Everyone thirsting over my man cause he’s so hot… he’s my man!”
Social media break after split
After Adam released his breakup status, Eiri also took to her Instagram stories to release a statement of her own as she revealed that she would be taking a lengthy break from social media following the couple's shock split.
The gorgeous mum-of-one, who shares two-year-old son with Adam, 27, penned: "The last three years have been so, so, amazing. Our little family have experienced so much laughter, love, and joy. You guys have been such a significant part of that.
"This next chapter of my life is surely going to be a difficult one. I would appreciate that people would refrain from commenting, speculating, or messaging. I have shared so much of my life, but for now, I am choosing privacy and I hope that you will all respect that."
dam's ex-girlfriend continued: "I appreciate you all so much and I'm so thankful for all the fun and opportunities you have given me. I am going to be taking a break from social media, so goodbye for now. Thank you so much for everything."
