Adam Devine says that it's no secret that he wants to dislodge Rangers skipper James Tavernier in Michael Beale's starting XI.
The teenager has played in four of the side's last five matches at left-back with regular full-back Borna Barisic returning from World Cup duty and Turkish defender Ridvan Yilmaz still out injured. Devine has grabbed the opportunity with both hands, but has had to settle for a place on the bench in the last two matches with fiest-choice Barisic now back from Qatar.
The young Rangers defender replaced Tavernier for the last 25 minutes in the 3-0 win over Motherwell on December 28th, and then was an unused substitute in the 2-2 draw in the Old Firm derby with Celtic last weekend. But the Scotland U-21 international has revealed that he ultimately wants to take Tavernier's spot at right-back in the Light Blues side, and also says that the experienced Englishman has helped him with his own development in the early years of his professional career.

He said: "It fills you with confidence. I just need to keep my head down. Tav’s in the team but ultimately that is my aim - to try and get him out of the team.
"That’s my drive in training every day. I want to be playing. I want to be starting games. But he’s a big role model for me. He’s been helping me. You just don’t want to stop. I can’t wait to get my next chance. Hopefully I’ll put on a good performance and stay in the team."
Although Devine played no part in the four-goal thriller with Celtic, he gave an insight into the mood in the dressing room following Kyogo Furuhashi's late equaliser, but was also adamant that the Gers can build on some of the good things they did in the game.
He added: "There was disappointment in the changing room on Monday of course but there’s a lot of positive to take out the game as well.
“I feel we are moving in the right direction. At a club like Rangers you need to win every game that’s in front of you. At the end of the day we want to pick up as much silverware as possible at the end of the season."
