On a recent episode of the Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans podcast, comedian Adam Carolla opened up about a couple of missteps he made during his time on Dancing with the Stars. Carolla competed on the sixth season of the popular ABC dance competition and reflected on inadvertently calling judge Carrie Ann Inaba 'a bitch' during one of the live shows.
The incident occurred after the judges had given their scores, and Carolla could be heard muttering, 'Oh, bitch,' which was caught by attentive fans. When asked about it by podcast host and former DWTS pro Cheryl Burke, Carolla confessed, 'I did and I forgot I did it.' He further revealed that the producers informed him of his comment, to which he initially responded with disbelief, saying, 'I didn't say it.' But eventually, he accepted the truth, stating, 'Yeah, you said it. And I was like, 'I did?''
Burke inquired whether it was a reaction to receiving a low score, to which Carolla clarified, 'No, I called her a bitch and I didn't have a recollection of it, which is weird.' Despite the slip of the tongue, Carolla emphasized during the podcast that he holds no ill will towards anyone, including Inaba. He acknowledged that both he and the show's team understood the nature of the competition, saying, 'I knew what the job was. They knew what the job was. I get it.'
In addition to this awkward incident, Carolla also shared a cringe-worthy moment involving fellow contestant Marissa Jaret Winokur. Before one of their performances, Carolla noticed that Winokur was incredibly nervous. In an attempt to offer some words of wisdom, he approached her alongside fellow contestant Penn Jillette. Carolla advised Winokur, 'Look, you're not gonna have fun out there, but you know what you're gonna have? You're gonna have an experience. You're gonna have an experience you couldn't trade for anything. It's such a crazy experience.'
He even went on to compare the show to childbirth, claiming, 'This is childbirth, [it's] the most important experience you're ever gonna have.' However, unbeknownst to Carolla, Winokur replied, 'I just had ovarian cancer and I can't have kids.'
This unexpected revelation left Carolla stunned, while Jillette burst into laughter, showcasing his characteristic humor. Carolla fondly remembered the moment, saying, 'And Penn Jillette started laughing like the insane atheist he is. Penn Jillette is like, 'Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god.'' Carolla, caught off guard, could only muster an incredulous, 'Ah, what?'
Amidst these memorable moments, Carolla humorously lamented that his unicycle skills during one of his dances went unnoticed by the judges. He jokingly said, 'Yeah, no one said, 'Hey, nice job on the unicycle,' or anything.' It seems Carolla's unicycle prowess went underappreciated in the eyes of the DWTS panel.
As Carolla reflects on his time in the competition, he graciously accepts the highs and lows, recognizing the unique experience of participating in Dancing with the Stars. While some moments may have been less than ideal, he maintains a light-hearted perspective on the whole affair.
Although Carolla might not have won the mirror ball trophy, he certainly left behind some memorable and amusing moments during his tenure on Dancing with the Stars.
