Adam Azim stopped British boxing rival Ohara Davies in the eighth round of their super-lightweight bout at the Copper Box Arena in London.
Azim, 22, was looking to extend his undefeated 11-0 record, during which he won and successfully defended the European title.
Former British and Commonwealth champion Davies, though, proved a tough opponent, battling on after being left with a blooded nose before eventually being stopped.
The pair had plenty of respect having been together from time around London gyms in the amateur ranks - but Azim soon set about Hackney fighter Davies, working his left jab.
By the fifth round, Azim was landing plenty of solid shots, as Davies, 32, fought on with blood coming from his nose before a left to the body put him on his knees.
Davies recovered some ground on the cards in the sixth, landing a couple of left hooks.
Azim, though, found another gear again in the eighth, a right and then a left hook to the ear penetrating Davies' guard, sending him to his knee once again before the towel came in.
While Davies announced his intention to retire in his post-fight interview in the ring, Azim is already looking toward high-profile contests against Harlem Eubank and Dalton Smith next year.
