'Actually scary' - Jamie Carragher sends Darwin Nunez message after Liverpool beat Napoli

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool have got a 'real player' in Darwin Nunez after the Uruguayan came off the bench to make a massive impact in the 2-0 win against Napoli last night.

Liverpool were unable to overturn the four-goal deficit and top Group A at Anfield - they could face some tough opponents in the round-of-16 - but did manage to exact some semblance of revenge on a Napoli side unbeaten in all competitions since April. Mohamed Salah opened the scoring on 85 minutes, stabbing home from close range after Nunez 's header was saved, before the Uruguayan himself poked home a second in injury-time.

It was Nunez, who only featured for the final 17 minutes plus added-time, whose presence turned a relatively uneventful goalless draw into a final quarter of chaos, whipping the Anfield crowd into a frenzy and playing his part in both goals. And former Reds captain Carragher heaped praise on the £64million summer signing after the final whistle, admitting he cannot keep his eyes off the 'scary' striker.

“It’s really interesting watching Nunez, he comes on and makes a huge impact,” said Carragher. “He hasn’t set the world alight. He hasn’t done what Haaland has done. And people are expecting more for the price-tag.

“But when you actually look at the minutes he has been on the pitch, and how many goals he has scored per-minute, then his numbers are actually scary, so he has actually made a huge impact.

“But there is something not quite there where Jurgen Klopp is going to play him every single game. He’s still searching for a system and how to fit him in. He’s very, very raw. But I think there is something, I wouldn’t say special it’s a bit too much, you can’t take your eyes off him when you are watching him play.

“I think Liverpool have got a real player – the physical attributes of pace and power feels, to me, that he will be a right handful in the future.”
