Actress Jane Seymour has shared her memories of her friend Dame Olivia Newton-John in a touching tribute following the star's death aged 73. It was announced on August 8 that the iconic star, who was known by many for her role as Sandy in the 1978 film Grease, had died "peacefully" at her home in California on Monday morning surrounded by her family and friends.
A number of famous names have been sharing tributes to the late singer and actress since the news was announced. Olivia's Grease co-star John Travolta said she made "all of our lives so much better" signing off his message "Your Danny, your John" in reference to his character in the hit film.
Hollywood actress and former Bond Girl, Jane Seymour appeared on Good Morning Britain where she shared an emotional tribute hailing the star as a "special person" who "cared about everybody else". Jane was housemates with Olivia's sister when she first moved to America, and spoke of her long friendship with Olivia.
"She was a really special person," Jane told presenters Richard Madeley and Charlotte Hawkins, "She changed the world I think in many ways. Especially in terms of what she did with cancer. Instead of hiding things in her life, she opened up and said 'hey this is what I've got, this is what's happening and this is what it looks like'.
"She was very open," the 71-year-old actress added: "She cared about everybody else, she made a huge difference. Her legacy is extraordinary. Not just as a performer but as a friend and a champion of people who are dealing with cancer."
Following Jane's tribute to the star, viewers were quick to take to Twitter to share their memories of the 73-year-old star. Martina tweeted: "Olivia Newton John deserves all of the accolades. She was so much more than her Grease role. An established international singer with global success before the film came along. She was the soundtrack to my life. I have rarely heard so many positive comments but she deserves them."
Simon Ballard added: "So sad to hear of ONJ’s passing.. she was an iconic piece of the jigsaw of my adolescence! Not a question of whether one has seen Grease, but how many times! RIP Olivia."
