Acton Town station fire: Huge blaze breaks out with Tube services forced to stop

A blaze has erupted at a car garage by a London train station this evening, dramatic footage shows.

Shocking footage shared on Twitter shows the flames billowing and crackling on a roof by Acton Town station in West London.

One witness described the scene as "apocalyptic" as the station was surrounded by emergency services, MyLondon reports.

A number of potentially explosive gas cylinders are inside the garage, according to London Fire Brigade.

Firefighters are currently cooling the cylinders to an ambient temperature as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.

The London Fire Brigade say they have deployed 10 fire engines and 70 firefighters to the scene of the fire at a car garage.

Residents who live nearby have been told to keep their windows closed due to smoke from the fire, firefighters say.

The LFB said they were called at 5.10pm and have taken 15 calls about the fire this evening.

Fire crews from Acton, Chiswick, Ealing, Park Royal and other neighbouring fire stations are at the scene.

In a tweet, they wrote: "Ten fire engines and 70 firefighters are at the scene of a fire at a car garage on Bollo Lane in #Acton. More information to follow."

Passengers were evacuated from the station this evening.

Police said that nearby buildings have also been evacuated as they support emergency crews at the scene.

The Metropolitan Police tweeted: "Police are on scene supporting @LondonFire with a fire at a car garage in #Gunnersbury Lane #Acton.

"Large cordon in place and some buildings evacuated.

"Acton Town station is closed. Displaced residents are asked to go to RVP at Acton police station."

The London Underground station has since been closed due to an Emergency Services incident.

There are also part closures on the Piccadilly Lone and District Line as a result of the fire.

Photos shared on social media show the inferno on the roof of what appears to be the Auto Car Centre on Bollo Lane next to the station.

The junction outside the station has been closed as drivers are being told to find other routes.

One person wrote on Twitter: "I literally just went through this station 10 minutes ago and didn’t see anything, hope everyone is safe."

Another on social media said the fire "seemed to pick up pretty quickly".

The Mirror has contacted the London Fire Brigade for more information.
