Activision Cease And Desist Order Halts Modern Warfare 2 Mod

Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer mod shut down due to Black Ops 6 sales 'interference'

Activision has issued a Cease and Desist Order to shut down a highly anticipated Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer mod, known as H2M-Mod, for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. The mod aimed to bring all aspects of Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer experience into the remastered version of the game, including maps, modes, weapons, and more.

The founder of the mod, Watchful Wolf, revealed that Activision's decision was driven by concerns that the mod's popularity could potentially impact the sales of the upcoming title, Black Ops 6. The order was issued just a day before the mod was set to go live, leading to its immediate and permanent cancellation.

Despite the mod's growing popularity and the significant interest it generated within the gaming community, Activision's move to shut it down has sparked backlash. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, the base game required to access the mod, had seen a surge in popularity on Steam's sales charts prior to the shutdown.

Watchful Wolf expressed disappointment over the turn of events and announced that he would no longer be working on mods for Call of Duty games. Instead, he hinted at the possibility of creating zombies maps or other mods for Black Ops III, or even developing an entirely new game project.

The shutdown of the H2M-Mod has left fans disheartened, with many expressing frustration over the missed opportunity to experience the complete Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer experience in the remastered version. The aftermath of the mod's cancellation has also led to negative reviews and backlash against Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered.

While the fate of the H2M-Mod remains uncertain, the incident has highlighted the challenges faced by modders in navigating the complex landscape of game development and intellectual property rights within the gaming industry.
