Activision has released a statement addressing the recent cheating issue that many players reported when playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox Game Pass.
The game came out to the subscription service last week and since then, many players spotted nefarious behavior from other people in-game.
Now, the studio is said to be aware of the increased reports of cheaters in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone recently.
Activision Issues Response
The team said that its "RICOCHET" anti-cheat software experienced an issue with a "detection system" last weekend. This led to the spike in cheater reports and it is said that the problem is now being resolved and things should go back to normal relatively soon.
Players were also encouraged to send in a report in-game if they suspected a player in their lobby was cheating, regardless of the platform they were playing on. This would help in further investigating the particular issue, according to PureXbox.
For people who have not yet been able to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox Game Pass, now would be a good time to prepare to do so. However, keep a lookout as the "Call of Duty Hub" makes things a little confusing at first.
Many players started to send in reports of seeing cheaters in their lobbies shortly after the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 season 5. This was a simultaneous release with the Xbox Game Pass access on July 24, 2024.
Game developers usually report on cheating methods and cheaters are purposely obfuscated, vague, or unclear.
This is intended to make sure that people are kept in the dark about the countermeasures that are being deployed against these nefarious players, said PCGamer.
Cheaters in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
One of the issues that players have experienced after the release of the game on Xbox Game Pass is that some people appeared to be on Xbox even if they were playing on a PC.
Some also speculated that the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox Game Pass directly caused the increased number of cheaters in the game.
The situation also comes as the majority of hacks and cheats for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 exist on PC. This means that bad actors have been able to disguise themselves and have been able to infiltrate other people's legitimate lobbies.
Prior to Activision's response, cheaters who were caught and banned simply had to create a new account and subscribe to Xbox Game Pass again and they would be able to continue their deeds, according to The Gamer.
