'ACT should be ashamed': police report record-breaking month for drink and drug-driving

August was a record-breaking month for impaired driving in Canberra with 160 drivers found driving with alcohol and drugs in their system, police say.

Throughout the month, ACT Policing said they conducted more than 24,000 breath tests and more than 400 roadside drug tests during a combination of major static operations and mobile patrols on territory roads.

Officer in charged of road policing, Detective Inspector Mark Steel, was alarmed by the number of drivers found driving under the influence of substances. Pictures by Karleen Minney and Matt Loxton
