Police are calling for public assistance in locating a Canberra man who has not been seen since March 31.

ACT Policing said the Bonython home of Shane Watson, 33, was also found unsecured when they recently searched it.

He is described as being of a tanned Caucasian appearance, about 190cm tall, with short brown hair, brown eyes, and of a muscular build.

Police said Mr Watson does not normally drive, has not accessed his bank account recently, and may not have a phone.

They believe he was living alone at the time of his disappearance.

Detective Acting Inspector of Criminal Investigations Shane Mundy said "generic" food was left on the table at Mr Watson's home, suggesting he had not planned to leave.

"Police attended his home in Bonython on Sunday, and it was clear from the state of the residence that he had left it without any planning," he said.

"We had his house forensically examined, and we took a number of exhibits from that location."

ACT Policing said both they and Mr Watson's family hold concerns for his welfare.

"Their concern grew as time passed and he hadn't contacted them," he said.

"[His] family came and saw us on Sunday because they hadn't spoken to him in a number of weeks, which was different from what he would usually do.

"He was quite close to them, he would speak to them or social message them every couple of days."

Anyone who may have any information about Mr Watson's whereabouts is being urged to contact ACT Policing Communications on 131 444 and quote reference number 7405873.
