A man has denied he raped a 16-year-old girl, instead claiming he walked away from their sexual encounter after learning her age so he wouldn't get into trouble.

Lachlan James Young, 24, took the stand in his Victorian County Court trial on Friday after pleading not guilty to a single charge of rape.
