Acclaimed singer Tina Turner said she put herself in 'great danger' in post weeks before death

In what was one of her last posts on social media prior to her death, the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll, Tina Turner, urged her fans and followers to "show their kidneys love” following her own health experiences in the past.

On Wednesday it was announced that the iconic singer, who was one of the best-selling recording artists of all time, had passed away "peacefully", aged 83, at her home in Switzerland.

Tributes have poured in from around the world for Turner, regarded as one of the most legendary solo performers of the century, celebrating her life and legacy.

Her decades-long career saw her win numerous Grammy Awards, become the subject of a biopic and most recently, her story was adapted into a jukebox musical.

However, the American-born Swiss singer, who is understood to have had a kidney transplant years ago, marked International World Kidney Day in March in what has become one of her last Instagram posts.

She wrote: "Today is International World Kidney Day. Why is it important? Because kidneys fail without pain. And that's why I'm telling you today: Show your kidneys love! They deserve it.

"I have put myself in great danger by refusing to face the reality that I need daily, lifelong therapy with medication.

"For far too long I believed that my body was an untouchable and indestructible bastion. I am therefore delighted to be able to support a new international campaign for kidney health.

"You can read the whole story of my disease on the website www.showyourkidneyslove.com. Here you can find out how your kidneys work, what the risk factors are and how you can keep these important organs healthy. Let’s show our kidneys some love!"
