Acclaimed British conductor Jan Latham-Koenig charged with child sex abuse offences

A celebrated British conductor who was awarded with an OBE for services to music has been charged with child sex abuse offences.

Jan Latham-Koenig was arrested by Met detectives at Victoria Station on Wednesday and was charged with arranging/facilitating a child sexual offence and sexual communication with a child the following day.

He is due to appear in court later Friday.

Latham-Koenig, who lives in South Kensington, made his name as a concert conductor with the BBC, later winning the prestigious Gulbenkian Fellowship and becoming a permanent guest conductor at the Vienna State Opera.

The 70-year-old has held music director positions at orchestras across the globe, including at the Flanders Symphony Orchestra in Bruges, the Novaya Opera in Moscow and the Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM in Mexico City.

He has also regularly worked with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Philharmonic, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, according to biography on his agency's website.

He was awarded the OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for services to music.

As of 2023, he held positions as the Music Director at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires and as the Artistic Director of the Festival Puccini, a festival held yearly to present the operas of the famous composer Giacomo Puccini, in Torre del Lago, Italy.
