AC Milan prepare bid for rejuvenated Chelsea World Cup star Hakim Ziyech amid financial issue

Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech is expected to have his future heavily discussed over the January transfer window after helping Morocco reach the World Cup quarter-finals. The Blues attacker has fallen out of favour under Graham Potter after failing to secure a move away in the summer.

Ziyech has ultimately struggled to replicate the stunning form shown with Ajax since his 2020 move to Stamford Bridge. The 29-year-old has contributed to only 24 goals in 92 appearances and has largely been used off the bench in his role in the club lifting the Champions League.

This season, under Thomas Tuchel and Potter, Ziyech has made just nine appearances and is yet to register a goal or an assist. After a number of attackers have been linked with a move to west London, Ziyech's time seems to be nearing its end and his performances in Qatar have only further impressed potential suitors.

Italian giants AC Milan were linked with a summer move for the Moroccan but opted to sign Belgian Charles de Ketelaere instead. However, Stefano Pioli's side are expected to be busy themselves in the transfer window as Rafael Leao continues to be linked with Chelsea.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri are expected to revisit Ziyech's situation at the Blues and are said to be 'preparing' a loan proposal with an option to buy for €15million (£12.9million). However, similar to six months ago, they face the tough task of convincing the player to accept a wage decrease - although previous reports have suggested Ziyech would be open to cutting his £5million salary to move to the San Siro.

Ziyech's performances in the Middle East have earned plenty of praise from the footballing world. The versatile forward has played key roles in Morocco reaching the last eight of the World Cup unbeaten with victories over Belgium and Spain.

He will have the chanced to help them advance further into the competition when Morocco take on Portugal on Saturday.
