How the Shopping Pass Works
The process is designed to be simple and secure. Visitors must pre-register on the airport’s official website, after which they receive a digital security pass with a QR code. This code is scanned at various checkpoints, including entry gates, retail stores, and exit points. Once inside, visitors are granted a four-hour window to explore the terminal’s exclusive areas. During this time, they can:
- Browse duty-free and luxury retail outlets
- Dine at premium restaurants
- Experience the airport’s award-winning architecture
After their visit, guests are required to return their security badge before exiting.
A Premium Retail and Dining Experience
Zayed International Airport is not just any airport—it’s a destination in itself. Known for its luxurious offerings, the terminal houses outlets from globally recognized brands such as Cartier, Chanel, and Hermès.
Food lovers can also enjoy curated culinary experiences, including restaurants by celebrity chef Todd English.
Restrictions and Conditions
While the initiative offers a novel experience, it comes with certain limitations to maintain security and compliance:
Personal electronic devices such as laptops and tablets are not permitted inside
Purchases of alcohol and tobacco require a valid boarding pass
Entry is strictly time-bound to four hours
However, there’s an added incentive—visitors who spend at least Dh200 inside the terminal can avail up to four hours of free parking, provided they validate their stay before exiting.
About the Airport
Opened on February 9, 2024, Zayed International Airport is named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the United Arab Emirates. The airport quickly gained global recognition, earning the title of “World’s Most Beautiful Airport” at the prestigious Prix Versailles architectural awards in the same year.
Renowned for its sustainable design and futuristic aesthetics, the airport has already become a major attraction for tourists. The introduction of the shopping pass further enhances its appeal, positioning it as both a travel hub and a lifestyle destination.
A Growing Global Trend
While this initiative is new to the UAE, similar concepts have been explored internationally. Airports in cities like Seattle and Detroit have introduced controlled access programs for visitors, while Singapore’s Changi Airport has long offered extensive retail and leisure zones accessible to the public.
With this move, Abu Dhabi joins a growing list of global destinations redefining the airport experience—making it not just about departures and arrivals, but about exploration, leisure, and luxury.
