ABP's 4.25 million sq ft Humber International Enterprise Park gains formal planning consent

Associated British Ports has been granted formal outline planning consent for Humber International Enterprise Park - a 4.25 million sq ft expansion beyond the huge Saltend site.

The industrial, manufacturing and logistics development spans 453 acres between Paull and Hedon, with almost half included in the freeport zone offering tax incentives for inward investors.

It is hoped up to 6,500 jobs could be created by companies moving in.

Originally granted consent with conditions by East Riding planners in March 2021, they have now been met, and it has been fully signed off by the local authority.

Simon Bird, ABP's regional director for the Humber, said: “This is one of the premier development sites in the North of England. It’s an exciting opportunity and great to have planning permission so that HIEP can now get up and running.

“The site offers huge potential to support business growth. Port-centric manufacturers and distributors would have easy access to import and export commodities while benefiting from the Humber Freeport status.”

Brought to market in January, it was the first and most significant tranche of development land launched to support the UK’s manufacturing, supply chain and renewable sectors.

ABP has committed more than £5 million to prepare it all for end-users, with other pockets in Immingham and Grimsby, and at other locations.

It comes as ABP takes forward plans for a new roll-on roll-off ferry terminal with Stena Line at Immingham. Consultation has recently closed on the proposal ahead of summer submission of a development consent order for the eastern flank of the UK’s largest port.

The pan-Humber expansions have led to a call from Mr Bird for a potential second road crossing to be looked at should early stage proposals for a flood barrier come to fruition for the estuary.

As reported, CBRE and Savills are advising ABP on the commercial opportunities at Humber International Enterprise Park.
