About 43,674 light-up children's glasses, crown headbands, sparkle headbands, and ties are being recalled because children can easily open the battery compartments and reach the button cell batteries inside. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall on Sept. 24, warning that swallowed button batteries can cause serious injuries, internal chemical burns, and death.
The toys cost about $1 and were sold from September 2016 through May 2026. That long sales window and low price are what make this recall matter for households. Inexpensive light-up items are often bought in bulk for birthday parties, classroom events, and Halloween, then scattered across toy bins, costume boxes, and junk drawers.
