Managerless Aberdeen are closing in on loan deals for Jay Gorter and Mattie Pollock as they look to bring an end to their post World Cup slump.
The Dons have agreed terms with Ajax for their keeper and Watford for their central defender, with the pair set to sign short-term deals that keep them in the Scottish Premiership until the summer. Aberdeen’s director of football Steven Gunn has continued to accelerate several signings despite the fact that Jim Goodwin was given his marching orders after the 6-0 thrashing at Hibs, just days after the Scottish Cup humiliation at the hands of Darvel.
The Pittodrie board feel they need another defensive option and another goalkeeper to get them through the season amid growing injury concerns. Gorter will come in and challenge Joe Lewis for the gloves, with Kelle Roos out longer term. The 22-year-old has limited top team experience at Ajax, but has been on loan at Go ahead Eagles and also turned out for Ajax Jong.
Pollock is in a similar situation at Watford. They signed the 21-year-old from Grimsby Town and he spent last season on-loan at Cheltenham Town.
There could also be exits before the close of the window. Several first-team Aberdeen players frustrated over their lack of game time.
