ABERDEEN tonight revealed their chairman and major shareholder Dave Cormack is to undergo triple heart bypass surgery this week - but is expected to make a full recovery.
Cormack underwent tests when he returned from Scotland to his home in the United States earlier this month which showed that he needed to have an operation.
The cinch Premeirship outfit are currently looking for a new manager after sacking Jim Goodwin following a dire run of form last month.
Cormack stated that process will be overseen by Alan Burrows, who will take over as Aberdeen chief executive a week tomorrow, when he departs Motherwell and starts his new role.
He said: “Having struggled with high cholesterol I had a heart calcium test performed. Having no symptoms, it was a real shock to find out I had three significant blockages in my arteries.
"I am thankful that this was caught in time, and I’ll undergo triple heart bypass surgery this week.
“With Alan Burrows coming on board in a week’s time as chief executive and with the support of my fellow directors, I’ll be able to take the time I need to rest and recover.
"Alan will pick up the early work done so far on appointing a new manager and lead the process on behalf of the board.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank fellow Dons fans for their incredible support home and away and to reaffirm my commitment to the club we all love.”
Aberdeen-born software entrepreneur Cormack became the major shareholder in his boyhood heroes back in 2017 and took over as chairman at Pittodrie in 2019.
He issued a statement earlier this week stressing the Dons would take their time identifying a permanent replacement for Goodwin.
He said: "Aberdeen’s recruitment for a new manager is progressing with potential candidates being considered against the detailed criteria and philosophy the club has set out.
“There has been a high level of interest as well as some unfounded speculation. It is vital that we carry out the necessary diligence in drawing up a short-list before embarking on any serious talks or interviews.
“Alan Burrows, who starts as chief executive on 27th February, will be involved in the next steps. It’s important that we take our time and be patient.
“In the meantime, Barry Robson, supported by Steve Agnew and Scott Anderson, will continue to lead the first team."
