Aberdeen have put a hold on talks with St Mirren over coveted midfielder Killian Phillips.
The Republic of Ireland international has claimed four goals in seven games so far this season, prompting the Pittodrie side to contact the League Cup holders to establish what it might take to add the 24-year-old to Stephen Robinson’s summer signings.
Phillips spent a previous loan spell in the Granite City in 2024. And Robinson was keen to team up again with a player he signed on a permanent contract for St Mirren before leaving for the north east in March.
Prepared to pay a fee in the region of £500,000 St Mirren want more for a player with a year to run on his current deal. The Dons are now likely to look elsewhere.
St Mirren have completed their tenth signing by tying up former Aberdeen right back Calvin Ramsay on a season long loan from Liverpool and expect more interest in Phillips before the window closes. Belgian club Kortrijk have been in touch, but have yet to firm up with an offer.

Phillips is also drawing attention from a German club and a number of American sides. Free to talk to interested clubs in January the Irishman holds an American passport and would not take up an international roster spot in MLS. New England Revolution, San Jose Earthquakes and LA Galaxy are all interested.
Confirming the signing of Ramsay manager Craig McLeish added: “We’re delighted to have a player of that calibre join us.
"He brings a lot of quality to the group. He can play that position in a number of different ways and it adds a different dynamic to what we're doing.
"It's a really important year for Calvin where he needs to find regular football to help kick on his career and we're happy to give him that platform because we get an exceptional young player to add to our group.
"He’s had a lot of game time with Liverpool over pre-season. He's had the full pre-season under their new manager, which he said has been really intense.
"He said even just normal training sessions have been really intense too, so we've got no real issues there about him coming straight in."
