Aberdeen have condemned alleged racist abuse aimed at club captain Anthony Stewart.
The central defender was targeted with alleged racist abuse on social media after the 3-1 defeat to St Mirren on Christmas Eve.
The 30-year-old had called out the comment himself, with Aberdeen FC now investigating the matter.
Stewart had said on his personal Instagram page: "There is many highs and lows in this beautiful game and I take full responsibility for my mistake, which cost us three points.
"But I will not take racist abuse lightly."
Stewart was sent off in the defeat in Paisley after hauling down Jonah Ayunga to concede the first of three penalties against his side.
Now, Aberdeen have released a club statement confirming a "stringent internal investigation" is underway and stating "we will simply not tolerate this type of abuse".
An Aberdeen statement read: “We strongly condemn all forms of discrimination and are shocked at the racist abuse aimed at our captain, Anthony Stewart.
“Anthony has our full support and as a Club we are currently undertaking a stringent internal investigation to try to identify the person responsible.
“Aberdeen FC stands free from all forms of discrimination, and we will simply not tolerate this type of abuse.”
After the defeat at the weekend, Jim Goodwin said: “It’s a tough one to take. To give away three penalties in any game is quite strange.
“And to be in front and play as well as we did in the first 15 minutes of the game, to then shoot ourselves in the foot in the manner that we did was the hardest part.”
