Opening the scoring wasn’t enough for Abbey Vale as they lost at Threave Rovers.
Dan Thom headed Vale into the lead but Threave drew level after half an hour when Phil Middlemiss found the net via the post.
Ten minutes after the break Threave were in front thanks to Dan Carmichael’s goal and he sealed the win when he pounced on the loose ball after Scott Milligan’s free-kick was parried.
Vale co-manager Allan Clark said: “It was an even game. We started off well and got our goal, then they got a goal that was a cross-come-shot.
“We fancied our chances in the second half but the big difference was Mr Carmichael. He got his two goals and caused us problems with his movement.
“We hit the bar and had chances but unfortunately didn’t take them but at the same time Taylor Hall made some good saves for us.
“The boys played well and it was a tight, competitive game. Threave had a wee spell in the second half but the boys never gave up.
“We’re happy enough with the performance but disappointed with the result.
“We were a few players light as well, which didn’t help matters.”
Vale are back at Maryfield Park this weekend in the Haig Gordon Cup.
But it’s a tricky tie as they face South of Scotland League leaders St Cuthbert Wanderers.
Clark said: “It’s going to be a difficult game but we’re looking to go and progress – we’re not just there to make the numbers up.
“They’re flying in the league and it’ll be difficult but if we stick to our game plan we know we can progress.
“We might have a couple of injured players back but some boys will be missing with other commitments.
“Greig Corbett should be back in training this week but I think Saturday will be too soon for him.
“Hopefully after the next 10 to 14 days he’ll be back playing.”
After a week off, Creetown are back in action when they head to Nithsdale Wanderers in the Cree Lodge Cup.
And in the South of Scotland League Cup, Lochmaben are facing rivals Mid Annandale a week after suffering a 5-1 defeat at Caledonian Braves in the league.
And Caley Braves hit three more goals in the second half as Lochmaben struggled with injuries.
