An abandoned Edinburgh car rental facility in the New Town could make way for a hotel with views stretching across Calton Hill.
An application has been filed by Hackland + Dore to turn the former Hertz car rental depot on Picardy Place into a modern 51-bedroom hotel with several rooms having access to a balcony.
The B-Listed Georgian townhouse is in line for conversion, although major work is said to be needed to restore the building due to the loss of interior fabric due to the insertion of a steel and concrete structure, reports Urban Realm.

The hotel would be located adjacent to the Tesco Express, with images uploaded to the supporting application showing the current state of the Hertz facility which has been vacant for many years.
The hotel would benefit from nearby amenities such as the Omni Centre, Princes Street and the soon to be added tram stop as part of the new link to Newhaven later this spring.
A section of the design and access statement reads: "The design approach will minimise disruption to all aspects of the existing building to not only preserve as much as possible, but also to keep it a viable economic venture. Basement, ground, and first floors occupy beyond the rear of the townhouse with the second floor covered with a metal roof.
"The neglect of the front elevation is clear and therefore it is the intention to restore and repair the stonework, ironmongery and windows as well as removing the dormer windows, reverting to three inline rooflights lining up with the façade windows.
"The reinstatement of the former lightwell, garden wall and ironmongery will reinforce the building line. Stepped entrance from Picardy Place, in keeping with context of number 14, leads directly into the existing core with a visual link to the proposed internal courtyard beyond."
