Aaron Rodgers was in Egypt for pre-planned trip during minicamp, players show no issue

Where in the world was Aaron Rodgers? Egypt, that’s where, according to Connor Hughes of SNY. He wasn’t out catching Carmen Sandiego, but he was there on a pre-planned trip that just happened to be during the team’s mandatory minicamp.

According to Hughes, Rodgers planned this trip during his recovery from his Achilles injury. “It gave him something to look forward to during one of the lowest points of his career,” wrote Hughes. “He’s long admired Egyptian culture and scheduled the visit for what was believed to be after the offseason programs.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh told the media during minicamp the team was aware of Rodgers’ plans, but still considered the absence unexcused. While Rodgers did miss minicamp, he was around for nearly all of the Jets’ offseason activities, including all of Phase 1 and all but one week of Phase 2. Ultimately, it was only two days of minicamp Rodgers missed.

Hughes also reports that players he spoke with did not have an issue with Rodgers missing minicamp, even showing surprise that those outside of the building felt the way they did about his absence. Rodgers and pass-rusher Haason Reddick (seeing a new contract) were the only players that did not attend minicamp in June. Rodgers will be back in full-go when the Jets report for training camp on July 23.
