Aaron Rodgers speaks highly of Nathaniel Hackett, saying thought of Jets hiring Hackett just to lure him ‘diminishes’ what he is as coach

Aaron Rodgers told Pat McAfee Wednesday that his intention for the 2023 season is to play for the New York Jets. The Jets had also hired Nathaniel Hackett as their new offensive coordinator.

There was some thought that Hackett was hired more or less as bait for Rodgers since the two worked together for three years in Green Bay while Hackett served as offensive coordinator under head coach Matt LaFleur. Rodgers isn’t buying any of that and believes that notion takes away from what Hackett is and can do as a head coach.

“If there’s any offense I’ve taken today…it’s to that,” Rodgers said when the conversation was brought up on McAfee’s show. “That actually diminishes the ability he has to coach football and connect with people. Anybody that’s been around Nathaniel Hackett knows that he brings a lot of energy, a lot of fun, he’s an incredible teacher of the game, especially the quarterback position and he’s a really good human being.”

“So for people to say that was done just as an attempt to lure me is a total disservice to Nathaniel Hackett, what he’s accomplished in his career, what kind of person that he is.”
