Aaron Rodgers is expected to join the Jets after he made his intentions clear on Wednesday’s episode of the Pat McAfee Show, but New York apparently wasn’t the only team that was interested in the Packers quarterback.
When asked if any teams outside of the Jets were involved in trade talks for Rodgers, the four-time NFL MVP didn’t directly name another team, but he seemingly answered the question by saying one of those teams had “one particular guy” on the team that he would’ve wanted to reunite with.
Fans can gather that this “guy” is Davante Adams, current Raiders wide receiver who played with Rodgers in Green Bay from 2014 to ’21. Rodgers never explicitly said who he was talking about, but didn’t deny that it was Adams and the Raiders when McAfee called it out.
Adams has made it clear this offseason that he wanted Rodgers on his team, posting various pitches on social media to his former quarterback.
The Raiders and Rodgers were connected through many rumors after Las Vegas’s previous quarterback Derek Carr was released by the Raiders and then signed with the Saints. But on Monday, the Raiders agreed to sign Jimmy Garoppolo on a three-year deal, putting Rodgers seemingly out of the picture.
The Athletic’s Jeff Howe reported on Wednesday that the Raiders did reach out to the Packers about Rodgers, but a trade was never worked out, sources told him. Instead, the Raiders opted to sign Garoppolo.
