Aaron Ramsdale leaks what Arsenal players were told at Newcastle hotel before victory at St James' Park

Mikel Arteta used Arsenal's Amazon Prime "All or Nothing" documentary as motivation for his team's victory at Newcastle United over the holiday weekend.

Arteta clipped the show down using painful moments from last season and still images from dejected Gunners players to remind them of how Newcastle had made them feel in 2022. This time a fired up Arsenal team showed up at St James' Park and inflicted a blow to Newcastle's own Champions League chances.

Speaking after the game at St James' Park, England and Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale said on Match of the Day: "The clip showed us all of our faces, staff included, how hurt we were all feeling. So we had that burning desire as soon as we were leaving the hotel that it wasn't going to be the same today."

Arteta's team stayed in the title race and kept their slim hopes of overhauling Manchester City alive with the win against Newcastle. The gap is down to one point at the top but City still have a game in hand.

Arteta said afterwards: "It wasn't enough just to talk about it. Not just the players but the staff as well. That feeling that we didn't do enough that day.

"The word was pain and then the desire for revenge. When you have question marks you have to resolve them. When you have the emotions we had last year you have to feel them again, realise how nasty they are and approach the game differently. The boys did that well."
