The rustic, refined elegance of an American country home is a style that never dates. The key to lifting the look out of the ordinary is to inject comfort and warmth. In today's AI-driven world, the chance to retreat to a remote cabin in the woods to reconnect with nature has never been more appealing. Actor Aaron Paul's Idaho home, designed by Jake Arnold, is one of the best I've seen in recent years, and I've seen many.
The entrance to our home might not always be at the forefront of our minds when choosing a room to decorate first, but it should. Think of your entryway as the first glimpse into your home: It can make a lasting impression and set the tone for your entire space’s style.
Follow Arnold's lead by decorating with neutrals – preferably warm, tonal ones. The calming color scheme is at the heart of the space.
Inside, cabins have warmth and rustic charm at their core. They offer an inviting escape to the dramatic landscapes that surround them, while also reflecting the beautiful tones and textures of nature.
‘To achieve the “cabincore” aesthetic, embrace materials that evoke the textures found in the wilderness. Incorporate stone, reclaimed wood, linen and wool to add depth and rustic appeal,’ explains Jessica Hanley.
However, you don’t need to have an authentic timber cabin to create a captivating hygge ambiance.
‘Cladding an urban interior in wood might be a step too far,’ suggests Stefan Ormenisan, founder and creative director of Mind the Gap. Instead ‘rich wool textiles such as bouclé cushions and plaid throws layered together on wooden or leather furniture alongside an atmospheric room color scheme will add to the laid-back feeling of a cabin interior.’
Far greater than just white and grey tones, the neutral palette spans from myriad off-whites and earthy beige and clay tones to deep browns and charcoals, thus offering endless scope for nuanced, layered looks suitable for every room – not just the entrance. But it is a good place to start...

The Magnolia Home By Joanna Gaines X Loloi rugs are some of my favorites. A rug is a wonderful addition to any space, but no more so than the entryway. Layer this sublime option across your hard flooring for a warm and welcoming addition.

Intricately woven in poly-rattan, the planter basket is lined with a plastic insert, this piece is ready to handle small indoor plants or standalone as a textural addition to home decor. I also like to use these baskets to store extra throws and pillows for when guests come over.
