Aaron Hickey has reportedly emerged as a £20million transfer target for Newcastle United.
The former Hearts defender has been impressive in the Serie A with Bologna, attracting interest from AC Milan.
He was rewarded with a call-up to the Scotland squad and made his international bow in last week's draw with Poland.
The 19-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the San Siro, where he would compete with left-back Theo Hernandez next season.
But the Italian giants could face competition from Eddie Howe's Newcastle, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claiming the Magpies are prepared to shell out as much as £20m this summer.
He tweeted: "Newcastle are interested in signing Bologna fullback Aaron Hickey.
"Potential fee £15-20m not an issue, he’s considered a top talent - but other clubs monitoring closely.
"Hickey has played more minutes than any other teenager in Europe's top five leagues this season."
The news will be welcomed by the money-makers at Hearts, who are believed to have inserted a sell-on clause as part of the £1.5m deal that took Hickey to Italy in 2020.
