Aaron Donald: We felt we were still the ‘best team in the league’ after 3-game losing streak

There was a moment in the regular season where things looked dire for the Los Angeles Rams. After beginning the year with a 7-1 record, the Rams would proceed to lose three consecutive games, causing some to question whether or not Los Angeles was a legitimate contender.

While there was criticism coming from outside the team’s facility, Aaron Donald shared at his Super Bowl opening night media session that the Rams never wavered during their three-game losing streak.

“We were still the best team in the league in our heads. That’s how we felt and we just had to show that,” he said.

Things were rolling along smoothly for the Rams in the first two months of the season and everyone was praising the team for acquiring Matthew Stafford via trade. But three consecutive losses to the Tennessee Titans, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Green Bay Packers in November prompted some to alter their outlook of the Rams.

Following their three-game skid, Los Angeles would get back on track against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 13, which started a five-game winning streak. Despite losing to the 49ers again in Week 18, the Rams were able to make up for it by ending their previous six-game losing streak to their NFC West rivals in the NFC title game.

Ahead of the Super Bowl, Donald reflected on the Rams’ three-game losing streak and how everyone on the team never lost their confidence. Donald understands that this current team is built to win now and is one of the best groups in the league as they are just one win away from achieving their goal of raising the Lombardi Trophy.
