Motorists in North Ayrshire are being warned to expect disruption with a section of the A78 closing for bridge maintenance works.
Roads firm Amey will tomorrow night carry out a bridge expansion joint replacements project on the key route at River Irvine.
The scheme kicks off on Monday evening at 8pm and should be finished by 6am on Wednesday, May 25.
Staff will be on duty between 8pm and 6am each night and the works will be completed in two phases.
From Monday night to Saturday, May 21, there will be a total closure of the A78 southbound carriageway, with a diversion put in place.
Diverted traffic will exit the A78 southbound at the Warrix Interchange and turn left on the A71.
From here, vehicles will turn right at the roundabout onto Long Drive and turn right onto Moss Drive before rejoining the A78 southbound via the on-slip at Newhouse Interchange.
Meanwhile, from Sunday, May 22 to Wednesday, May 25, it will be the northbound carriageway subject to a full closure.
Diverted traffic will exit the A78 northbound at Warrix Interchange and turn right onto Moss Drive. Vehicles will then turn left onto Long Drive, join the A78 west on-slip before turning right to rejoin the A78 northbound.
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained. Amey is carrying out the work on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the network management contract for the south-west road trunk unit.
Roads bosses warn the works are weather-dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if conditions are not favourable.
Next month – from Friday, June 17 to Monday, June 27 – essential maintenance will be carried out on the A78 in Irvine from Manson Road to the Warrix Interchange southbound.
