No punches were thrown, no wardrobe mishaps were made and there were only a couple of jibes aimed at the Prime Minister. All-in-all a successful production.
But really, even if something had gone tits up, none of us would have noticed as all eyes were on the royal kids. But who are the cherubic youngsters who won the hearts of the nation? Here’s everything you need to know about the blue blooded progeny who stole the show at the Platinum Jubilee.
Prince Louis
Parents: the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
Show-stealing moment: It’s impossible to choose just one, but if pressed, it’s a toss up between the moment he covered his ears and screamed blue murder during the Trooping of the Colour. Or, when mid-reprimand, the cheeky princling attempted to shush his mother, before sticking out his tongue and pulling a face every naughty child up and down the country will instantly recognise. Iconic.
Cute credentials: The four year-old is the youngest child of William and Kate, is fifth in line to the throne and the unaffected breath of fresh air the monarchy needs. Louis Arthur Charles was born on the 18 April 2018, making him an Aries who are notoriously self assured and honest (check, check). The Duchess of Cambridge revealed that one of his first words was “Mary” AKA Mary Berry, because “right at his height are all my cooking books in the kitchen bookshelf”. He attends the Willcocks Nursery School, just round the corner from his home in Kensington Palace and one of his favourite songs is Happy Birthday.
Princess Charlotte
Parents: the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
Show-stealing moment: The telling off she gave her brothers. The seven year-old first nudged her older brother George to correct his posture during the Trooping of the Colour and grabbed Prince Louis’ hand to curtail his overzealous waving during Sunday’s pageant.
Cute credentials: Formerly the cheekiest member of the Cambridge brood, Charlotte proved she was very much a “big girl” now over the Jubilee weekend. Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was born in the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital on ââ5 May 2015 making her a Taurus. Her parent’s nickname for her is Lottie but William has been heard on occasion to call her “Mignonette” meaning “cute” in French. She attends Thomas’s School in Battersea with her older brother George where she is a keen gymnast, according to her mother. "Charlotte is really into gymnastics, she’s doing cartwheels, handstands”. Charlotte is also a keen horse rider and started riding when she was 17 months old.
Prince George
Parents: Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
Show-stealing moment: When the young prince and third in line to the throne was filmed singing all the words to Rod Stewart’s Sweet Caroline.
Cute credentials: Eight-year-old George Alexander Louis was born on 22 July 2013 making him a Cancer, who are known for their empathetic, caring natures. George attends Thomas’s School along with his little sister Charlotte, where he is a keen dancer like his late grandmother Princess Diana. Prince William has said, “George is doing dancing as well, he loves it.” A classmate’s parent told Vanity Fair that, “George is really happy at school, and his nickname is P.G. He’s very popular and has lots of friends, and there’s very little fuss made about who he is.”
Mia Tindall
Parents: Zara and Mike Tindall
Show-stealing moment: Dancing exuberantly to Abba and breaking into hysterical giggles when Prince Louis kissed her on the cheek during Sunday’s pageant.
Cute credentials: Mia Grace Tindall is eight years-old and is 22nd in line to the throne. Zara and ex-rugby player Mike’s first born’s exact birthday isn’t known but she was born sometime in January 2014 and is Princess Anne’s third grandchild. Mia doesn’t have a title and attends primary school near her Gatcombe home in Gloucestershire.
Lena Tindall
Parents: Zara and Mike Tindall
Show-stealing moment: Squabbling with her cousins Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte over a bag of sweets proffered by Zara Tindall, presumably to keep the cousins placated throughout Sunday’s (long) pageant.
Cute credentials: Lena Elizabeth was born at ââStroud Maternity Unit in Gloucestershire on 18 June 2018. The toddler’s godfather is reported to be Prince Harry and she is 23rd in line to the throne. Lena currently attends nursery but, according to her father, she was initially reticent about starting education. Speaking on the The Good, The Bad and The Rugby podcast, Tindall said: "She was very, very clingy, but now she’s fully into it."
Savannah Phillips
Parents: Peter Phillips and Autumn Phillips
Show-stealing moment: Belting out ABBA’s Dancing Queen at Sunday’s pageant
Cute credentials: Eleven year-old Savannah Anne Kathleen Phillips is the Queen’s oldest great-grandchild. The 20th in line to the throne was born on 20 December 2010. Her parents, Peter and Autumn Phillips, announced their plans to separate in January 2020, but it is reported that the couple live very near each other in Gloucestershire. Savannah and younger sister Isla are close with their Cambridge cousins and at the Trooping the Colour in 2018 she was pictured telling Prince George to stop singing during the national anthem before placing her hand over his mouth.
August Brooksbank
Parents: Princess Eugenie and Johnny Brooksbank
Show-stealing moment: The one year-old was pictured enthusiastically jumping up and down on his mother’s knee clad in an adorably patriotic baby blue sweater emblazoned with a Union Jack at Sunday’s procession.
Cute credentials: August Philip Hawke Brooksbank was born in February 2021 and is the ninth great-grandchild of the Queen and Prince Philip, and the first grandchild of Eugenie’s parents Prince Andrew and Sarah Duchess of York. Although Princess Eugenie has shared numerous photos of August on her Instagram account, the Jubilee was his first public appearance.
