A Welsh conservative Member of the Senedd has applied to become a Mayor of London candidate. Natasha Asghar, who represents South Wales East, made the announcement on Monday afternoon.
She posted on Twitter: "I've applied to become the Conservatives Mayor of London candidate. For 2 years I have been fighting against Labour's policies in Wales - and now it's time to take the fight to London. It's time for change and I know I can be the breath of fresh air Londoners need."
Miss Asghar made history in 2021 as the first woman of colour to be elected to the Senedd since it was formed in 1999. She is the daughter of Mohammad Asghar, known as Oscar, who was a regional MS for South Wales East until his unexpected death in June 2020. She worked for him in his regional office, before going onto what her LinkedIn page described as a varied spectrum of jobs including "TV presenter, host, author, producer at Number 59 Productions, Youtube creator, voice over artist and agony aunt”.
