A brand new music festival is coming to the waterfront area of Barry at the end of April to raise funding for young musicians needing access to instruments and tuition.
Run by non-profit community interest company COMET - which stands for Community Organisation Mack Events Team -the Barry Waterfront Music Festival will be held over Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30, at popular venues in the town such as Goodsheds and Academy Espresso Bar.
Founded by Matt Blumberg - who is the man behind Barry's other hit festival, GlastonBarry, which has been running since 2013 - the festival will host a series of musical performances as well as a competition to find a performer to wow the 4,000 strong crowd at GlastonBarry in late July - this 'Search For A Star' competition is being run in association with local radio station Bro Radio.

Alongside performances from local bands and musical groups throughout the weekend, the sites will be hosting musical workshops for families, offering food and drink as well as a live magic show.
The event is free to attend and will last from 12 midday until five in the afternoon. You will not need to buy tickets for the festival.
Speaking of the event, Matt Blumberg said: "Alongside the Search for a Star competition in the Goodsheds, there will be music workshops for families to attend in the Academy, just across the road, hosted by Glamorgan Music School. Sign-up sheets are available on our website and Facebook page or you can show up on the day if there are any slots. This is a great opportunity for everyone to give music a go, whether you’ve never picked up an instrument before or are currently having lessons.
“Throughout the day, there will be food and beverages available in the Academy and from the fantastic selection of businesses in the Goodsheds. It is a fun-filled family day out, finished with a magic show from the talented Simon Sparkles.
“Day two of the Waterfront event will showcase an array of local bands and vocalists, all performing a variety of music genres, perfect for everyone’s taste. Likewise, over in the Academy, performances from local acoustic bands will play from 12-6pm. With food, drink, and musical numbers, it is the perfect way to spend your bank holiday Sunday. This is sure to be a wonderful family weekend.
“Entry to both days is free but donations to COMET’s work would be greatly appreciated. All money raised during the course of the weekend will go to fund COMET’s work in supporting underprivileged local young musicians."
