A 35-year-old man arrived at an emergency department in Victoria, Australia, after an alleged assault, intoxicated, with blunt trauma to the head and torso and a Glasgow Coma Scale score fluctuating between 11 and 13. He got a full trauma CT: brain, cervical spine, chest, abdomen, pelvis.
The scan found no bleeding in his brain, no skull or facial fracture, no spinal injury, no collapsed lung, and no organ damage. What it did find was that his left kidney had never made it to the left side of his body.
