A 15-year-old girl with narcolepsy started getting out of bed in the middle of the night, eating large amounts of calorie-dense food while appearing unresponsive, and then going back to bed with no memory of any of it. The episodes began after her dose of sodium oxybate, a medication used to treat the sudden muscle weakness and daytime sleepiness of narcolepsy, was increased.
The case was published in the October 2026 issue of the Journal of Taibah University Medical Sciences by R.A. Al Mazyad, R. Alhajaji, and A.S. BaHammam. What makes the report stand out is not only what happened, but how it was resolved: the teen did not have to give up the drug that was finally controlling her symptoms.
