A 15-year-old boy was alone at home when sudden, severe pain hit his right testicle. He had felt something like it once before, weeks earlier, and it had faded on its own. He did not call anyone. He did not lie down and wait it out. He opened ChatGPT, described what he was feeling, and the chatbot told him plainly to seek urgent medical care.
He reached an emergency department roughly two hours after the pain started. Surgeons found testicular torsion, untwisted the spermatic cord, anchored the testicle in place, and saved it. The full case report frames the episode as an unexpected role for generative artificial intelligence: not a diagnostic tool, but a round-the-clock counselor for a teenager who had nobody else to ask. It was published in Cureus by a urology team at An Najah National University Hospital and Rafidia Surgical Hospital in Nablus.
