A strike under the spotlight: Hollywood's screenwriters demand better salaries

Screenwriters in Hollywood are striking for the first time in 15 years. Negotiations between the Writers Guild of America and TV networks – as well as Netflix, Amazon and Disney – broke down after the two sides failed to find an agreement on issues like pay, mandatory staffing and guarantees against artificial intelligence. We take a closer look.

Meanwhile, the US treasury secretary is warning that America could run out of money to pay its bills as early as next month. Janet Yellen is targeting June 1 as the so-called X-date as she urges congressional leaders to act fast to raise the US debt ceiling. Far-right Republicans in Congress are demanding steep spending cuts in return – a position rejected by President Joe Biden and congressional Democrats. 

Also in this edition, the gap keeps widening in between the Bolivian capital La Paz and the wealthy province of Santa Cruz. Luis Fernando Camacho, the far-right Santa Cruz governor and opposition leader, has been held for four months on charges of "terrorism". But his supporters are not giving up on the ultra-conservative Catholic. Our correspondents report.
