A South Lanarkshire councillor has won an award at a national local government ceremony.
Councillor Maureen Chalmers (SNP, Blantyre), won at the fifth annual Cllr Awards which were held in Dundee on Wednesday (October 12). She took home the award for Resilience and Recovery.
The Cllr Awards are an important way to celebrate what councillors do locally, and this year, nearly 100 nominations were received. All council leaders were also recognised for their remarkable contributions to local government over the last two years.
Councillor Chalmers said: “I am surprised and delighted to win the Resilience and Recovery Award, especially when up against four other strong finalists. To be nominated by members of your community and colleagues for an award and for my contribution to be valued and recognised in this way, is just so humbling.
“But my work on Covid response and recovery in Blantyre and across South Lanarkshire was just a tiny part of the overall magnificent community led work with fantastic partnership support across all sectors. A huge thank you to all, we achieve so much more together.”
The ceremony took place at Caird Hall with hosts Dundee City Council and special guests and speakers including Ben Macpherson MSP Minister for Social Security and Local Government) and Cllr Steven Heddle (COSLA Vice President).
The awards are organised by LGIU Scotland and CCLA, there were a total of five categories, including Community Champion, Leader of the Year Lifetime Achievement, Resilience and Recovery and Young Councillor.
