Cardiff is set to be transformed into the kingdom of Duloc later this year as an event celebrating all things Shrek is heading to the city. Shrek Rave has packed out venues across Australia and the USA over the last year and is coming to the UK in 2023, with the capital on its list of destinations.
The day rave, which is being held at Pryzm nightclub on March 4, celebrates the 2001 Dreamworks classic with fancy dress, hit songs from the film and other themed performances, as well as special Dreamworks-inspired cocktails you won't find anywhere else. While the first film came out over 20 years ago, Shrek, the story of a grumpy ogre sent on a quest to rescue a princess in order to win back his beloved swamp, quickly became a cultural phenomenon, with three sequels, two spin-offs and several short films and TV specials following. Children of the 1990s and 2000s have grown up watching the titular green ogre, but now, as adults, have the chance to experience the franchise like never before.

With similar events selling out venues across Australia and the USA, fans in the UK have been given a sneak peek of what to expect from a Shrek Rave, with videos of the events going viral on TikTok. Partygoers have been given a dress code of 'green' with the best Shrek-inspired outfit winning a prize.
The film had a memorable soundtrack and it is celebrated accordingly at the rave, albeit with a little twist. Clips on TikTok of DJs playing at other 'Shrek Raves' show them sampling the likes of The Monkees' 'I'm a Believer', Bonnie Tyler's 'Holding Out for a Hero' and Smash Mouth's iconic 1999 hit 'All Star' over hardcore EDM tracks.
The 18+ event also promises 'crazy Shrek performers' as well as 'Shrek giveaways' and 'Shrek visuals'. Ravers can also expect a selection of Shrek-themed drinks on offer, with tequila-based Swamp Water and 'Fiona' and 'Shrek' cocktails served up at similar events.
Those who get tickets for the event could be set for a few more surprises, aside from sharing the dance floor with a host of fairy tale creatures and monsters. The director of the first film, Vicky Jenson, even turned up to one of the events in the USA to speak to fans during a break in the party.
Tickets are now on sale, with prices starting at £12.50. The event kicks off at 4pm on March 4, wrapping up six hours later at 10pm.
The tour is going all over the UK, visiting venues in London, Manchester, Brighton, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Newcastle, Plymouth, Leeds, Portsmouth and Southampton. Clubs in Nottingham, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Norwich and Sheffield will also become a sea of green later this year, with fans across the country given the chance to honour the world's most famous ogre in style.
