A Place in the Sun's Leah Charles-King surprises fans with pop star past

A presenter from A Place in the Sun has shared a throwback to her popstar past. Fans of the Channel 4 lifestyle show admitted they had 'no idea' about Leah Charles-King's roots as an R&B singer.

She was a member of girl group Kleshay, which had two UK top 40 hits back in the 1990s. Leah, who nowadays is a TV and radio presenter - perhaps best known for A Place in the Sun since 2021 - took some fans by surprise when she shared a throwback clip on social media.

Leah shared a clip from a music video as she revealed she was part of the trio with her cousins Alani Gibbon and Candace Cherry. Kleshay reached number 33 on the charts with their first single, Reason, in September 1998 before their second hit, Rush, peaked at number 19 the following February.

On Twitter, Leah wrote: "In the 90s I was in a girlband called ‘Kleshay’ with my first cousins, Candii and Alani. 'Rush' was released by Sony Music 24 years ago today! 20-2-1999."

Referring to the clip, she added: "Fun fact: This 'desert' scene was filmed in the Canary Wharf area before it was redeveloped to what you see today". Her followers appreciated the throwback, with some admitting they didn't know and others enjoying the nostalgia.

Channel 5 newsreader Claudia-Liza Vanderpuije replied: "Had no idea! This is brilliant" It's a banger still you know". Comedian London Hughes wrote: "How did I not know this!"

Wayne David tweeted: "This is iconic!" Matt commented: "Love this throwback! I’d forgotten about it but remember buying the cd :)" and Benjamin added: "This is a vibe!"

Emma wrote: "Wow, I had no idea! A woman of many talents". Tee Cee wrote: "Oml. So much nostalgia, I would have only been a bab but this was hands down one of the BEST eras".
