A Place in the Sun's Leah Charles-King 'screaming in agony' in hospital bed

A Place in the Sun presenter Leah Charles-King shared how she spent the night "screaming and in agony" after having surgery in hospital.

On Friday, the star took to Twitter to bravely share her experience after suffering two panic attacks which left her "entire body convulsing". Leah, who has bipolar disorder and anxiety and is a mental health campaigner, said another patient tried to calm her down from their hospital bed.

Leah said: "Currently in hospital; had surgery; immense pain; on morphine drip. During the night screaming in agony & crying in pain."

"Nurses say they’re coming to help me but keep forgetting / busy elsewhere. #Mentalhealth impact results in huge panic attack for me but the scariest part was during my panic attack the nurses didn’t know what to do".

She added: "Not one nurse (in this ward at least) knows #mentalhealthfirstaid and are unable to offer me #mentalhealthsupport whilst I remain in their care. I had a 2nd panic attack in the morning. My folks came to visit and a nurse asked them advice on what to do if I get another one.

"That actually made me feel sad because it’s not the #nurses fault they aren’t given #mentalhealth first aid training as standard within the #NHS. WHY NOT THOUGH??

Leah said she is in 'immense pain' (Twitter/Leah Charles-King)

"The government have reduced funds to MH services for years whilst #mentalillness increases exponentially. Won’t name hospital involved the nurses are lovely and I’m grateful to our #NHS It’s not their fault they’ve been let down; as we all are!"

Charity Bipolar UK sent Leah their support. A tweet from their official account said: "Your Bipolar UK family is sending you lots of good wishes and hoping that that you can get home very soon".
