'A pain in the' - Pep Guardiola makes Liverpool claim after Man City's Champions League win

Pep Guardiola has labelled Liverpool as a “pain in the a**” for his Manchester City team.

The Reds are still fighting for the Premier League title, with a nine-point gap separating them in second place from leaders Man City, who have played one game more.

Liverpool are still also fighting for all three cup tournaments this season, with the final of the Carabao Cup later this month as well as the fifth round of the FA Cup a few days later.

This week sees the Reds back in Champions League action against Inter Milan, and it was the same for Man City where they faced Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday night.

A 5-0 win for Guardiola’s side put them in cruise control in the tie, and after the game the Man City boss was interviewed by Peter Schmeichel for CBS Sports.

Guardiola was quizzed on which teams could catch his team in the Premier League and could beat them in the Champions League.

When asked which team could “beat” Man City, Guardiola replied: “Liverpool.”

He added: “They are six points behind us. Liverpool [have been] our biggest rivals over the last seasons, they are always there.

“A pain in the a** all of the time.

“They are a fantastic team in Europe.”

Guardiola continued: “Just take a look - PSG today, they played really well against Real Madrid.

“Inter Milan, Liverpool, Man United are in this competition.”
