A new retro gaming bar and burger spot is set to open in the Northern Quarter. Going by the name Calcio!, it has landed on Dale Street, and will be throwing its doors open just in time for the 2022 World Cup.
The bar will feature gaming booths, each with its own old school consoles, including a classic Sega Megadrive, a Super Nintendo, a Playstation 1, Nintendo 64, Playstation 2, a first generation Xbox, a PS3 and an Xbox 360.
Named ‘calcio’ after the Italian slang term for football, the beautiful game will be part and parcel of the offering here too. As well as old school games like Street Fighter, there will also be an onus on classic football games like Pro Evolution Soccer, Fifa and International Superstar Soccer.

"We’re incredibly excited about the project and think it’s a great fit for Manchester given the history it has in football," said co-owner Gavin Williams.
The venue will be showing World Cup games when the tournament kicks off next week, but when that’s all done and dusted, it will be showing classic games from the annals of history on its screens, and regular Premier League games too. In addition, it will feature a permanent collection of classic football strips exhibited on the walls.
Food-wise, they’re hooking up with Rochdale’s What’s Your Beef, the burger flippers seen at the likes of Stretford and Sale Foodhalls, and with a branch soon to launch in Northwich in Cheshire.
Joining the likes of NQ gaming bars N64 and Pixel, Calcio! will open on November 11. Head to its Instagram page for more details
